About Apicoectomy

A relatively small number of teeth will not respond to routine endodontic treatment or re-treatment. These teeth can often be treated successfully through a surgical procedure called an apicoectomy.

What is an apicoectomy?

The term apicoectomy refers to the removal of the apex (end) of the root. More importantly it includes the sealing of the root end with a material called MTA (mineral trioxide aggregate). This procedure is performed under an operating microscope.
